Criteria and Guidelines

Objectives

• To showcase powerful stories of individuals bringing people of different faiths together, and give impetus to these endeavours
• To encourage greater understanding of the positive role religion can play in the lives of so many people in the world today
• To spread these stories around the world to be an inspiration to others
• To further the vision of the Coexist Foundation to promote understanding and respect between Jews, Christians and Muslims, and between these religions and others, through education, dialogue and research 

The Process

NOMINATION

• Nominations for the prize will be by written application using a secure, online form or PDF form
• No more than three individuals can be nominated per organization
• Applications must be submitted by October 31st 2011

LONGLISTING

• Based on the written submissions, and following due diligence, a maximum of fifty applications will be long-listed by Coexist
• Applicants who are selected for inclusion in the long-list, and those that are not, will be informed by Friday 4th November 2011

SHORTLISTING

• Of the long-listed applications, following due diligence, five will be selected for the short-list by senior members of the Coexist team and close partners and advisers
• Applicants who are selected for inclusion in the short-list and those that are not, will be informed by the end of November 2011
• Short-listed entries will be required to provide additional information, and agree a Memorandum of Understanding with Coexist
• Location visits, with some preliminary filming, will be made to shortlisted entries

FINAL JUDGING

• In late 2011 or early 2012, a distinguished panel of international judges will select three winners (the overall winner and two runners up) from the shortlist of five
• Once the winners are identified, Coexist will complete filming for a short documentary telling each of these stories
• The films will be distributed online and through traditional media
• Although the films will be made in full co-operation with the winners, Coexist reserves the right to editorial control of the final versions

ANNOUNCEMENT AND PRIZE PRESENTATION

• The winners will be announced at a high-profile press event in Spring 2012
• Coexist will book travel and accommodation to enable winners to attend the event

 

Coexist Award Guidelines, Eligibility and Conditions of Entry

All candidates’ activities must be currently underway, or have been completed within 2011, and must reflect the purpose of Coexist: to promote understanding and respect between Jews, Christians and Muslims, and between these religions and others (as well as those who follow no religious tradition) through education, dialogue and research.


Those nominated:

• Must be over 18
• Must have been promoting understanding between faiths for at least three years
• Can be of any faith or of no religious persuasion
• Must commit to transparency of their work, and those currently supporting it, and agree to supply any requested evidence to ensure due diligence in the judging process
• Must be nominated by a third party: you cannot nominate yourself
• Shortlisted candidates must agree to be filmed and included in promotional material, (although we can keep their identities confidential if necessary)
• Shortlisted candidates must be prepared to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Coexist on copyright issues etc

The judges at each stage will take into account:
• The impact that the activity has on furthering education, dialogue and research
• The compelling and inspirational nature of the nominated person’s activity and story
• The proven track record of their activity
• The degree of thought, research and rigour of the activity
• The scale, depth and sustainability of the activity and its ability to be replicated

Other Factors
• The judges’ decision at every stage will be final
• All copyright in the films produced for the Prize will be owned by Coexist
• Applicants agree to provide their reasonable co-operation in preparing promotional materials for the Prize – as outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding between Coexist and shortlisted candidates
• Applicants consent to the processing of their personal data by Coexist for the purposes of administering the Prize
• The allocation and application of the funding will become a part of the Memorandum of Understanding between Coexist and the Prize winners
• Any dates or deadlines referred to above may be extended if Coexist considers it reasonably necessary to do so
• The views of those nominated, winners, and any films produced regarding their story, do not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of Coexist
• By submitting a written application to be considered for the long-list, nominators, and those nominated, agree to be bound by these terms
